Hi, friends!

I want to share with you a little bit about my purpose, my experience, and my life:

A little bit about my purpose…

I want to honor God in everything I do. My heart is for recovery: My own and for other women on their recovery journeys. I walk alongside women, comforting them with the comfort I have received from God, and inspiring them to take Biblical steps to personal growth and freedom.

I also write about my recent struggles with chronic illness and pain. I believe in transparency, and I hope that as I open up, you will too. Please, don’t leave me hangin’. 😉

A little bit about my experience…

I have 12+ years of experience both in broadcast journalism and in academic and industry research. In addition to my award-winning research publications, my inspirational writings have appeared in Just Between Us, {in}courage, a division of DaySpring, Living Better 50+, The Gabriel, Inspired Women Magazine, Ruby for Women, Rest Ministries, and Mentoring Moments for Christian Women. I had two stories published in Women of the Secret Place (Ambassador International) (2012). My first book was Dragonflies, Ketchup, and Late-Night Phone Calls, a thankfulness journal. A Spanish version became available in 2017. I’m blessed to have published six books as of February 2020.

So you know I write. But you might not know that I also speak at recovery events. I’ve been a leader in a 12-step, Christ-centered recovery program, Celebrate Recovery, where I facilitate open-share and step study groups.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Lee University. There, I concentrated my studies in Broadcast News and Television Production, with a Minor in Religion. I also earned a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from University of Florida. My graduate and post-graduate work focused on Mass Communication, Public Journalism, Statistics, and Marketing Research. Yep, statistics. I love crunching numbers. Actually, it’s way more than that, but that’s a topic for another day. 🙂

I have worked in front and behind the camera in television programming studios, and in radio and television newsrooms. As an Instructor at the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, I taught courses in broadcast journalism, video production, and audience research.

I currently live in the Southeastern United States. I’ve worked for several Fortune 500 companies in Marketing, Marketing Research, Data Analysis, Human Resources Talent Acquisition, Workers’ Compensation. (Okay, you get the idea… I like numbers!)

I am also the President of Lakeland Christian Writers, a chapter of American Christian Writers (ACW).

A little bit more about my life…

My family and friends call me “Sunshine.” My desire is for all who come into my life to feel the warmth of God and to know they are safe around me.

I appreciate silence, but I can also talk your ear off. I can analyze statistics with the best of them and still lounge for craft sessions with my friends. I know the power of being transparent and radiate my new-found freedom in Christ–from my dimples to my spontaneous bursts of laughter to my quirky fashion style and flowing ethnic skirts.

I am a firm believer in Sabbath rest. I carve time out of my busy schedule for solitude; nature walks; gardening; journaling; experimenting in the kitchen; movies, music, singing, and dancing (I’m a pretty-good salsa dancer.); and spending time with loved ones, including my husband of nine years, my three children through adoption, our three dogs, and two cats.

Here are some random pictures of my life:

[I will add current pics soon! The ones I had here were a little outdated. :D]

Well, I think that’s about it. If you have any questions, just feel free to contact me.

I hope my site helps you to find the comfort and freedom you need: Jesus Christ.

Big hugs,
Daphne
